In the Jewish community, certain life events, such as the passing of a loved one, require a great deal of attention to detail—especially when it comes to organizing a shiva. For years, my clients have asked me for recommendations for this service, particularly older individuals who may not have family or friends nearby to help with the traditional seven days of mourning. However, until recently, there was no clear, advertised resource available to support families through this process.
That is, until Kim Gallagher founded Shiva Source, a new service designed to fill this gap. After spending nearly 25 years working with the Greater Phoenix Jewish community, including with organizations like the Jewish National Fund-USA and the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center, Kim recognized the urgent need for a service that would assist families during times of loss.
Kim’s new venture helps families navigate the solemn traditions of a shiva with ease, offering customized, compassionate assistance when it’s needed most. This service is a direct response to the community’s need for professional, reliable assistance that respects Jewish customs while relieving the burden of planning during a time of loss.
For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to see someone like Kim, who already has deep connections in our community, step up to address this pressing need. Having someone like her, who is not only innovative and creative but also deeply connected to the community, provides a level of trust and support that is invaluable during such challenging times.
It’s exciting to see another Jewish woman pave her own path and make such a meaningful impact on the lives of others. I’m excited to now have a trusted resource to direct clients to when they need assistance with shivas—and I’m sure many families will be grateful for this much-needed service.
